Here's
What You Can Do!
First of all, it's essential that you
Make Your Voice Heard!
53's opponents are few in number, but noisy. If we are silent,
our elected officials will think we are even less numerous, which will take
political power away from the majority who deserves it.
Get Out And Vote
The ballot box is the most important place where you, as a concerned citizen, can
make your voice heard.
The Lake County Board Election is especially important. Inform yourself about the candidates, and vote for those in your
area who have spoken out in support of 53... and of course, vote against those
who are trying to blockade it.
To help you with your research, check out our voter's guide.
Let Us Know About You
One of the main purposes of this site is to create a "cyber-community" of all those who
support 53. It's essential that we know who you are, and how to reach you. Why?
- So that we can keep you updated on what's going on in the 53 advocacy community
- So that we can ask for your support when it's critical--for example, asking you
to write to a particular official when a decision is coming up, or to attend a rally
where we need your presence
- So we can gauge how effective this site is
- So we can tell elected officials and others about the true size of the 53 advocacy
community.
Please note that we will not, under any circumstances, "sell" your name to other
organizations nor use it for any non-53 related purposes. Scout's honor! Nor will
we bombard you with e-mails. We will, however, selectively send you a "heads up" when
there's something you should know about.
Please click here for an easy-to-use response form
that you can use to tell us that you support us.
Write Your Elected Representatives
The White House gets many sacks full of mail each day, and of course the President doesn't
have time to read them all. For local officials, however, the situation is very different.
Many times, local officials read the mail they receive themselves; and even when they don't,
mail is handled by a senior staffer who regularly reports on public sentiment.
Even more importantly, local officials know that for everyone who writes, there are dozens
who don't, but who share the same views as the writer. This means that when you take the
time to write an elected official, your voice is multiplied 12, 24, or more times in influence!
So please write, and let those whom you've elected--and whose job it is to represent you--to
let them know how you feel. If you don't, they can't read your mind.
To make this easier, we've included a sample letter and elected officials'
addresses that you can use. Click here and follow the easy directions.
And please don't forget to copy us on any letters you send by mailing a copy to:
