At least 63 communities and municipal organizations representing over a million residents in the Route 53 planning area of Lake and Cook Counties support the extension of Route 53. Thirty-four individual communities have passed resolutions of support, as have the Northwest Municipal Conference, thel Lake County Municipal League, and the Barrington Area Council of Governments. Additionally, fourteen Chambers of Commerce, plus a dozen other public-private organizations have passed resolutions of support. Lake County Farm Bureau, Lake County Partners, Lake County Board, Lake Cook Traffic Management Association, Cook County Board of Commissioners are in support. Many of Lake County's legislative leaders including Senator Adeline Geo-Karis of Zion, Representatives Sid Mathias of Buffalo Grove, Tim Osmond of Antioch, Andrea Moore of Libertyville and Mark Beaubien of Barrington support the building of Route 53.

Two communities, Hawthorn Woods and Long Grove, representing 12,205 residents are in opposition to Route 53.
